The vaginal microbiome

Just like the gut, your vaginal microbiome is made up of many millions of bacteria.

While both the gut and vaginal microbiomes contain similar strains of bacteria, they are not entirely the same, with the vagina relying more heavily on high levels of Lactobacillus, which are thought to produce lactic acid. This is why we’ve created a formula that contains specific bacterial strains to supplement those naturally found in the vaginal microbiome.

The gut-vagina axis

Close in proximity, these two areas of our body are intrinsically linked and even share the wealth when it comes to normal bacteria (and, unfortunately, pathogenic bacteria too).

Holland & Barrett’s two a day Tribiotic is a pre-, pro- and post- complex, contains a carefully selected blend of clinically studied bacteria chosen specifically for the gut and vaginal microbiome.

This includes two clinically studied strains of Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus plantarum, an excellent lactic acid producer and Lactobacillus gasseri, one of the main species found in a healthy vaginal microbiome.

Cranberry and kiwi for intimate health

Not only do H&B Tribiotic Women’s Intimate Balance capsules contain plentiful clinically studied bacteria, they also contain other ingredients.

While kiwi fibre is included to help feed your good bacteria, keeping your body’s microbiomes happy, calcium lactate gives you more of the good stuff your friendly bacteria produces, that helps support digestive enzymes.

A high strength cranberry extract has also been selected.

Cranberries are packed with A-type proanthocyanidins, also known as condensed tannins, which research has shown can play an important part in womens health.
